I don’t know where the strange idea comes from that a slippery slope is a kind of logical error. This is an institutional or politico-economic concept, not logical. The slippery slope occurs in social matters, and helps to accurately determine a contribution to the economy when the logic of organizations অর্থাৎ that is, the individual incentives under a particular social system দিকে leads to results inconsistent with officially-declared or idealistic objectives; That is, when there is a possibility of slippery slope.
The no-fly list was and will be waiting for a slippery accident. We should know. The Patriot Act which has been used to track down suspected drug dealers and spy on ordinary Americans. The RICO Act calls for people to be tried without any mafia connection. Anti-tobacco laws now regulate vaping that does not involve tobacco. And so the announcement. If they are effectively limited, it is not an easy achievement, politicians and government bureaucrats are expected to make the most of the powers they have been given, as it is usually in their personal interest.
Who would have thought that a no-fly list would be used against crypto entrepreneurs? This just happened as South Korea Financial times Report (“Embattled crypto operator Teraform Labs staff on no-fly list,” June 20):
South Korean prosecutors have barred Teraform Labs workers from leaving the country as the probe deepened after the company and its co-founders imposed $ 40 billion in cryptocurrencies.
The Seoul South District Prosecutor’s Office told the Financial Times on Tuesday that a travel ban had been imposed on “dozens” of former and current Terraform Lab employees, but declined to give further details.
I don’t know if there is any fraud involved in this particular case, especially if we define “fraud” as something else the government does not like. But despite the reasonable suspicion of actual fraud, states already have sufficient (read: too much) power to enforce common law against fraud, with prosecutors (bureaucrats) not resorting to mass control against a group where some people vaguely suspect something.
Which set or group will the no-fly list be used against next time?
