Senate Democrats understand the Covid tradeoff

More precisely, they understand the Covid tradeoffs for themselves.

“Senate Democrats, some of whom have decried their GOP colleagues’ lax attitude toward masks, have adopted an informal ‘don’t check, don’t tell’ protocol of late, especially as they try to pass historic inflation-reduction legislation. Over the weekend,” a senior Senate aide told Pak News. “If a member gets Covid they will not delay… Counterparts are saying they are not going to test anymore. It’s not an official mandate but we all know we’re not going to let Covid stop us. Agreement is being made. Less testing, just wear a mask and be done with it.”

This is from Matt Margolis, “Democrats Knicks Covid Warning to Secure Vote on Senate Spending Bill,” PJ MediaAugust 6, 2022.

I find that Margolis’ title writer sometimes exaggerates, but it seems accurate.

Opponents of lockdowns and mandatory masks have consistently pointed out over the past 2.5 years that there are tradeoffs: even if the lockdowns and masking requirements that many people want are effective, they will cost money. Senate Democrats understand that. They are willing to throw caution to the wind, abandoning their own covid conventions so they can raise our taxes, spend money on green pork, and even shelter high-income people from paying for health insurance.

Tradeoff for me but not for you.
