MiB: Michael Levy, CEO of Crowe Holdings in commercial real estate

Michael Levy is the CEO of Crowe Holdings, a 75-year-old real estate investment and development company. Crow is the largest builder of multi-family apartment buildings in the United States. Previously, he worked in real estate finance and investment management at Morgan Stanley. Levy is currently a member of the Advisory Board of the Real Estate Roundtable, Institute of Real Estate Operating Companies, and an Urban Land Institute Foundation Governor.

Levy explains how he spent a year learning about the business behind the family business, focusing on commercial real estate. The firm’s divisions include Crowe Holdings Capital Fund, Crowe Holdings Capital, Trammell Crowe Residential, Crowe Holdings Industrial and Crowe Holdings Office. The firm both develops and invests in commercial real estate.

He explains how Tramal Crow, in the post-war era, partnered with various partners across the country to develop commercial properties. The partnership included a 50/50 split of profits, with Crowe providing financing. The firm thrived in the following decades.
